NEWS RELEASE:
The annual Bucyrus Middle School Science Fair is a showcase of student work ethic, perseverance and creativity. This year’s Science Fair featured 43 student projects that were evaluated by more than 30 judges from the Bucyrus and Crawford County community.
When the final project was judged, 10 students from the Middle School received “Superior” ratings from the judges. These students earned the opportunity to compete against other students during the 2018 Marion District Science Fair March 17.
“We had an outstanding event again this year,” said Patrick O’Connell, Science Fair coordinator. “All the students did a fantastic job throughout the entire process of preparing their projects for judging, and we are proud of each one for their willingness to showcase their research and presentation skills.”
Students who received a “Superior” rating during the Secondary School Science Fair included: 7th Grade – Jacob Hamm, Ella Hoover, Maddison McDaniel and Madalyn Kimmel; 8th Grade – Karmyn Blizzard, Ashley Davis, Rayne Tucker, Lincoln Mollenkopf, Amber Zornes and Rosalyn Johnson.
Along with selecting the top projects that will represent the district at the next level, judges also selected special awards. These winners included: Best Overall Project – Ella Hoover; Best Life Science Project – Ashley Davis; Best Physical Science Project – Jacob Hamm; Best Consumer Science Project – Karmyn Blizzard.
The 2018 Marion Area District Science Fair will be held at Alber Student Center on the campus of The Ohio State University-Marion. Students who receive a “Superior” rating at the District Science Fair will receive an invitation to the State Science Fair at The Ohio State University in Columbus.
“I want to thank the judges and volunteers from the community for giving their time and talents to help with our event,” said O’Connell. “This is truly a community showcase, and I appreciate everyone’s help and support.”
In addition to the traditional science fair, High School students had the opportunity to showcase their work during STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) Night at the Secondary School.
“The STEAM Night was a new idea for us to give more students the opportunity to participate in a new and exciting way,” said O’Connell. “Students collaborated together from different classes to develop some amazing projects.
