Marysville, Ohio – The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association (OCA) awarded Duane and Pat Hord of Hord Family Farms near Bucyrus, Ohio, the Environmental Stewardship Award at the OCA awards banquet held Jan. 21, 2017 at the Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center in Lewis Center, Ohio.
Each year, in an effort to recognize individuals who excel in preserving and protecting the environment associated with their farm, OCA and In Ohio Country Today jointly sponsor the Environmental Stewardship Award. The award presentation featured a video of the Hord Family Farms that was generously sponsored by Crawford County Cattlemen’s Association.
Hord Family Farms represents fifth and sixth generation row crop farmers, swine producers and cattle feeders. Hord Family Farms prides themselves on their mission of core values to be efficient and environmentally sound agricultural stewards with Christian values thoroughly entrenched in their business. For them, it is important to be environmentally sound and use resources as efficiently as they can. Through row crop farming and their commercial feedlot operation, it is their goal to make the best possible nutrient situation for the plants raised, forages for the cattle, and crops for all divisions. Duane says environmental stewardship is something that consumes everyone’s life on the farm. It is their goal to set an example for the community by doing things the right way with state of the art technology.
The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association is a non-profit membership organization that represents the business interests and way of life important to farm families that raise cattle. It serves as the voice and issues manager for all of Ohio’s beef cattle business including cattle breeders, producers and feeders. It is the beef industry’s grassroots policy development organization and is an affiliate of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association strives to maintain profitability and growth of Ohio’s beef industry, while providing consumers with safe and wholesome beef.
