BUCYRUS — A Bucyrus man being held in Marion County appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court to answer to charges of violating the terms and conditions of his community control.
Matthew Lust, 33, was convicted of aggravated robbery in 2014. He is currently on Judicial Release. On July 3, he allegedly shot his girlfriend and then turned his gun on Marion police officers. The exchange of gunfire resulted in Lust being shot twice.
Lust is represented by Bucyrus attorney Brad Starkey. Since the community control violation is a result of the pending charges in Marion, Starkey waived the reading of the specifics of the violation. He advised that his client generally admit to violating the terms and conditions of his community control.
Judge Sean Leuthold accepted Lust’s guilty plea and addressed the defendant.
“I’m not going to give you a big speech,” Leuthold said. “I was skeptical about allowing you to be placed on judicial release. I had hoped you would turn your life around. I wanted the best for you.”
Noting that Lust is presumably innocent, Leuthold said he understood Starkey’s recommendation. Leuthold imposed the remaining five years of Lust’s prison sentence. Lust, who was transported to court by Marion City Police, returned to Marion at the end of the proceedings.
