The Nature Center at Lowe-Volk Park is open this week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Saturday. The Nature Center is closed on Sundays until April and will be closed on New Year’s Day. Upcoming events include:
Audubon Christmas Bird Count, Sunday, December 31.
Join the Crawford Park District for this classic example of citizen science, the Audubon Christmas bird count collects data on bird populations throughout North America. Those who wish to participate should meet Naturalist, Warren Uxley, at Bob Evans Restaurant in Bucyrus. Bob Evans is located just south of the intersection of US Route 30 and State Route 4 in Bucyrus at 7 a.m. If you would like to count birds at your home feeder, contact the Crawford Park District at 419-683-9000 for your information packet before the count date.
Homeschool in Nature: Rocks and Minerals, Thursday, January 4 from 10 a.m. & 2 p.m. at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 State Route 598.
The Earth’s crust is composed of rocks and minerals, but how many can you properly identify? This month, the Crawford Park District invites Homeschoolers to learn how to use the characteristics of a rock or mineral to identify the type it is. Classes are limited to 20 students per session. Please call the Park District to reserve a spot for your 5 to 12-year-old by January 3. Lowe-Volk Park is located 3 miles north of US Route 30.
