Prison time is in the immediate future for two area men.
Dion McKinney pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony burglary in Crawford County Common Pleas Court Thursday afternoon. The twenty-five-year-old Bucyrus man admitted to trespassing at a home located at 607 Virginia Ave. on May 22, 2013 with the intent to commit a criminal offense.
McKinney’s plea deal sent him to prison for four years, though he will receive credit for 170 days already served. He will be placed on mandatory post release control supervision for three years after he serves his prison sentence. McKinney must also pay restitution in the amount of $3,475 to Donna Shell and a must pay a $500 fine.
McKinney had committed the crime while on probation. He admitted to the trespassing violation as well as failing to comply with a post-sentence investigation, changing his address without permission and missing his scheduled office visits. He was terminated unsuccessfully from his community control.
When Kyle Baldwin entered the Crawford County Common Pleas Court, he already had a good idea that he would be going to jail. The twenty-five-year-old Galion man had only been scheduled for an initial hearing on his community control violations but chose instead to finish out his jail time rather than mess with any more of the court’s time.
Baldwin pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree drug possession felony in August and had been placed on probation for three years, though he had been credited for the 86 days he had spent in jail. Fortunately for Baldwin, that jail time credit is now beneficial to him.
Baldwin admitted to failing to report to his monthly office visits since Sept. 24, failing to notify his supervising officer of his change of residence on Oct. 18, and failing to attend his court-ordered substance abuse counseling since Sept. 24. He also waived his right to counsel.
Judge Russell Wiseman revoked Baldwin’s community control and sentenced him to serve the balance of his sentence—totaling 94 days—at the county jail.
