BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—On April 28, 2026, at approximately 1:50 p.m., Bucyrus police responded to a complaint regarding a suspicious individual in the 400 block of East Lucas Street. The caller reported that the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was “nodding off.”

Officers M. Graves and Wireman quickly arrived on the scene and identified the individual as 34-year-old Joshua Blankenship. Upon their initial interaction, officers observed Blankenship displaying signs of lethargy and fluctuating consciousness. Concerned for his well-being, Bucyrus Emergency Medical Services were summoned to provide treatment for suspected fentanyl use.

During the encounter, officers discovered that Blankenship had attempted to destroy a small bag containing suspected fentanyl hidden in his pants pocket. This act caused the powder to scatter over multiple items in his pocket and onto his hands, subsequently exposing both officers to the substance during the arrest.

Further investigation revealed that the bag, along with an additional amount of suspected fentanyl, was located on the sidewalk where Blankenship had been found.

Blankenship was taken into custody and transported to the Crawford County Justice Center, where he faces several charges, including:

– Possession of Drugs (Schedule I or II): Felony 5

– Tampering with Evidence: Felony 3

– Disorderly Conduct: Misdemeanor

Local authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in the community.
