Press release and staff report

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted today reminded voters that the deadline to register to vote in the May 2nd Primary and Special Election is one week away, on April 3rd. Important dates to remember for this election are outlined below.

The full, detailed and interactive 2017 elections calendar is available here.

Voters in 74 counties may have a local race or issue on the ballot this May.

There are two issues on the ballot for Crawford County, though one will apply to only a few residents. Crawford County Children Services is asking for an additional tax for operating or capital expenditure. The tax would be at a rate not to exceed 1.5 mills – amounting to $0.15 for each $100 – for eight years. It would begin in 2017 with the first amount due in 2018.

Plymouth-Shiloh Local School District is seeking input from the district whether to put a renewal levy on the ballot to avoid a $325,000 operating deficit. The potential 3.7 mills levy would be for five years.

There is only one contested race in the county. Cory Tyrrell, who attempted to run for an At-Large seat on the Bucyrus City Council in the 2015 General Election, is challenging longtime council member Bruce Truka for the 1st Ward seat.

Uncontested races include incumbent Jane Cremeans for Bucyrus City Treasurer, incumbent Sis Love for Bucyrus Council President, incumbent Monica Sack for Bucyrus City Council 2nd Ward, and newcomer Douglas Foght for Bucyrus City Council 3rd Ward.

Mark Makeever and Kevin Myers are running on the Republican ticket for the open At-Large seats on Bucyrus City Council while former mayor Dan Ross and incumbent Dan Wirebaugh are registered Democrats for the positions. That contested race for the three seats will be determined in the General Election.

Currently, no one is on the ballot for Bucyrus City Council 4th Ward and Allen Laferty is the lone person running for the four open seats on the Crestline Village Council.
