Rodney Hunt is the type of person that when he needs something done – he does it himself. The 1987 Bucyrus High School graduate has taken that can-do attitude into his business where he uses it to his customers’ benefit.
“My family was into cars all my life and I just kind of picked it up,” Hunt said.
Hunt went into business for himself with a place on Washington Square in Bucyrus in 2008. In 2013 he moved that business to 2061 Ohio 4 South into what had been Houpt’s carpet store. He transformed what had been an open carpet store into offices and a complete auto care shop with mechanic’s bay, paint shop and more, including what will one day be his own living quarters.
And he’s still not done.
“We’re planning on having a car lot,” Hunt said. “We’re in the process of getting a dealer’s license.”
Hunt’s Auto Sales Service Center provides mechanical services, tires and body shop work.
Hunt actually got his start while working in the garage of an auto dealership. While there he became aware of the high cost to customers when it came to auto care.
“When I worked at the dealership I wondered, ‘How can people afford this?”
Complimenting his practical experience with classroom work, Hunt is ASE certified and noted his hourly rate is $50, well below the going rate at other auto service centers in the area.
“Same work, half the price,” Hunt said. “We’re probably one of the most reasonable places around town.”
Hunt’s plan for the car dealership include adding another building. Until then, he can be reached by calling 419-562-2262 or by stopping by. Those who stop by are likely to be greeted by Grizzlie, Hunt’s 15-week-old puppy. And they shouldn’t be surprised or offended if Hunt doesn’t offer a quick handshake. His hands are most likely covered in grease from doing the work himself.
