COLUMBUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—State fire officials are reminding residents that Ohio’s seasonal burn ban is now in effect, prohibiting most outdoor burning in unincorporated areas during the daylight hours of March, April, and May.
Under Ohio Revised Code 1503.18, open burning is strictly banned between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. throughout the spring months. The State Fire Marshal notes that this period is historically the most dangerous for wildfires because of the abundance of dry, dead vegetation left over from winter.
While the ban focuses on the spring months, it also returns annually in October and November during the fall fire season. Residents found in violation of the ban can face significant fines.
