BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Chaz E. Akers, 39, was arraigned in the Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Thursday January 8th.
Akers is charged with two counts of failure to comply, each third degree felonies and each punishable with up to 36 months in prison , one count of theft, a fourth degree felony punishable with up to 18 months in prison, and one count of breaking and entering, a fifth degree felony punishable with up to 12 months in prison.
Akers is accused of stealing a 2024 Dodge Ram pickup truck on New Year’s Day sparking a high-speed pursuit that nearly extended into Marion County. During the chase, three law enforcement cruisers sustained damage.
The pursuit came to an end when Akers reached a dead end on Olentangy Road in Crawford County, at which point he surrendered to police.
He was then transported to a Columbus hospital for treatment of his injuries before eventually being booked into the Crawford County Jail.
Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold set Akers’ bond at $200,000. He appointed attorney Madison Garverick to represent him.
