MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—A Mansfield police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave following two separate incidents involving alcohol on Saturday, August 29.
Officer John Meyer, who has served with the department since January 28, 2014, was removed from duty at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday after reporting for his shift while under the influence of alcohol. Following his removal, Meyer was transported to OhioHealth to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
Later that evening, at approximately 9 p.m., the Mansfield Police Department was notified that Meyer had been stopped by the Ontario Police Department for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. According to a department press release, Meyer was subsequently incarcerated at the Richland County Jail.
Meyer faces charges of OVI, a marked lanes violation, an improper lane change, and an open container violation.
Mansfield Police Chief Jason Bammann stated that no further details are currently available, as the situation remains subject to an active administrative investigation and a pending criminal case.
