BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—On December 2, community leaders, elected officials, and local partners gathered at Port Bucyrus Airport to celebrate the groundbreaking for the airport’s new terminal building. The event marked a major milestone in a project that has been in the works for decades.

A Project Years in the Making

Plans for improving the airport have been developed and updated over the past 30–40 years. Several long-time advocates, including members of the Airport Commission who have served since the 1980s, have helped guide the airport through multiple phases of planning and development. Their persistence and dedication were recognized by attendees throughout the day.

Local Contractor Selected

The contract for construction was awarded to Studer-Obringer, a local contractor. Their involvement not only brings needed expertise to the project but also keeps investment within the community, supporting local businesses while improving an important regional resource.

Funding and Community Support

The new terminal is the result of a collaborative effort among city leaders, state and federal partners, and the local community:

• City Council provided matching funds that helped unlock state and federal support.

• Federal and state programs are expected to cover a significant portion of future projects, potentially up to 90% match funding.

• The Port Bucyrus Airport Terminal Improvement Fund, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions from the community. Donations can be sent to:

Community involvement, including fundraising efforts, has been essential to keeping the project moving forward.

Airport’s Value to the Community

Attendees emphasized the airport’s importance to Bucyrus—supporting local business, encouraging economic growth, and strengthening the region’s connectivity. The Airport Commission expressed its gratitude for the many years of effort from mayors, city council members, airport managers, and the community at large, all of whom helped make the groundbreaking possible.

Looking Ahead

Construction on the new terminal is now officially underway, with completion expected by Fall 2026. The airport team will continue working with state and federal partners to secure funding for future projects. This new terminal promises to serve the community well for many years to come.
