BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The trial for former Bucyrus City Councilwoman Carolyn Shireman has been rescheduled to October 29. Visiting Judge Howard Hall has approved the state’s motion to consolidate the cases against her, resulting in a single trial addressing two separate indictments.
Shireman was initially indicted on charges of telecommunications fraud, a third-degree felony, and theft, a fourth-degree felony. In June, an additional charge of telecommunications fraud, a second-degree felony, was filed against her, linked to her management of the nonprofit organization The Positive Seekers.
Originally, Shireman’s trial was slated for August 13. However, that date will now serve as a final pretrial, leading up to the trial’s commencement in late October.
Represented by Bucyrus Attorney Andrew Motter, Shireman maintains her innocence. Motter opposed the consolidation of the charges, arguing that the alleged financial discrepancies are unrelated to the nonprofit and that combining the cases could be prejudicial to his client. He expressed confidence that evidence would ultimately exonerate Shireman.
Crawford County Now will continue to monitor this developing story.
