BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Since taking the helm of the Crawford County Common Pleas Court in 2015, Judge Sean Leuthold has delivered on his promise to enhance citizen safety in Crawford County.
Recent statistics released by local law enforcement agencies reveal a dramatic decline in crime rates across Bucyrus, Galion, and Crestline over the past decade.
The data, compiled from 2014 to 2024, highlights substantial reductions in burglaries, thefts, and robberies.
In Bucyrus, police reported a staggering 90% decrease in burglaries and break-ins, dropping from 192 incidents in 2014 to just 19 in 2024. Thefts also saw a significant reduction of 60%, with numbers falling from 470 to 188. Overall, Bucyrus experienced a total crime reduction of 69%, with total reported incidents decreasing from 672 to 207.
Galion recorded an impressive 96% decline in burglaries, down from 122 in 2014 to just 5 in 2024. Thefts in Galion decreased by 76%, with incidents dropping from 466 to 110. The total number of crimes reported in Galion fell from 593 to 115, marking an overall reduction of 81%.
Crestline also reported noteworthy improvements, with a 95% decrease in burglaries, from 96 in 2014 to 5 in 2024. Thefts saw an 83% reduction, with incidents dropping from 253 to 44. Crestline’s total crime statistics show a decline from 350 incidents in 2014 to 49 in 2024, representing a total reduction of 86%.
In the surrounding county and townships, burglaries and break-ins fell by 93%, from 111 to 8, while thefts decreased by 77%, from 224 to 52. The overall crime reduction for this area was 82%, with total incidents decreasing from 335 to 60.
In total, the region has seen a 93% reduction in burglaries and break-ins, a 72% decrease in thefts, and a complete elimination of reported robberies, resulting in an overall crime reduction of 78% from 2014 to 2024.
These improvements coincide with the tenure of Judge Sean Leuthold, who has served as Common Pleas Judge since February 2015, contributing to efforts aimed at enhancing community safety and reducing crime rates in the region.
