BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford County Board of Developmental Disabilities, in collaboration with local schools and organizations, is hosting its seventh annual awareness and inclusion event on Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at Bucyrus High School.
The event, held during Developmental Disability Awareness Month, will feature a basketball game where high school varsity athletes from across Crawford County will team up with Special Olympics athletes. This year, cheerleaders from local high schools will also join the Special Olympics pep squad.
Admission to the event is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for a local food pantry. Organizers are particularly requesting soups, macaroni and cheese, ramen noodles, and hygiene supplies, especially men’s body wash, shampoo, and shaving supplies. Canned vegetables are not needed at this time.
The event will also feature a 50/50 raffle and a “throw for dough” fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting the food pantry, Special Olympics of Crawford County, and Chargers for Change, a self-advocacy group. T-shirts will also be available for purchase.
During the event, winners of a second-grade coloring contest and a middle school poster contest, both focused on disability awareness and inclusion, will be announced. The Bucyrus High School pep band will provide entertainment.
