BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The 59th annual Bill Rahm Invitational Bowling Tournament is set to begin this weekend, marking nearly six decades of competitive bowling in the community. Bill Hansen joined Randy Bigley on a recent Community Spotlight segment to discuss the upcoming event and its rich history.

“Believe it or not, it’s that time of year already,” Hansen remarked. “It seems like the years just keep coming faster.” The tournament, which has been a staple in the local bowling scene, will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year.

Hansen shared that the tournament’s longevity often surprises people at national events. “When I tell them our tournament has been going on for 59 years, they can’t get over it,” he said. The event has become a multi-generational tradition, with many families participating over the years.

This year’s tournament will feature the Harry Wells Award, named in tribute to the late Harry Wells, co-owner of Suburban Lanes. Nathan Monk, with an impressive average of 227.81, will receive the award. The tournament will also welcome rookie Gabe Higginbotham, who enters with a 209.23 average.

The competition begins on February 8 at 12:45 p.m. with the introduction of the champions and the presentation of the Harry Wells Award. The first four-game match will start at 1:00 p.m., followed by another session at 3:00 p.m. The tournament will continue over the next two weekends, culminating in the finals on February 22. The women’s invitational begins the following weekend.
