BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Despite the cold weather, the Crawford Soil and Water District remains busy with a variety of upcoming events and initiatives. Diane Awbrey from the district joined Community Spotlight to share the latest news.
One of the highlights is the youth summer day camps for children aged 6 to 11. Registration opens to the public on Monday, January 27, and is limited to the first 30 registrants. The camps will be held on June 11 and June 18 at Camp Michael, just outside of Bucyrus, with each day featuring different topics. A new addition this year is the camp on June 25 at Acres of Adventure, which includes a visit to a dairy farm.
Additionally, the district will host a manure management meeting on Thursday, February 20, at 5:30 p.m. at Lykens Township Community Hall. This event is geared towards livestock producers and will cover topics such as soil testing, manure sampling, and the benefits of applying chicken litter.
The district’s annual fish and tree sales are also underway. Orders for fish fingerlings, which are Ohio-raised to prevent contamination, must be placed by Friday, April 18, with pickup on April 25. The tree sale offers seedlings and larger trees, with pickup on April 9. This year, strawberries will also be available.
For more information on these events and to register, visit the district’s website at crawfordswcd.org or their Facebook page. The district office is also open for in-person assistance at 3111 State Route 98.
