Suspected illegal drug activity led to one woman being arrested and two toddlers being removed from their home in Galion on Wednesday.
The METRICH Enforcement Unit, which consisted of Galion Police Department Special Investigations Unit, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and Bucyrus Police Department, executed a search warrant at 763 South Boston Street. The search warrant was in reference to illegal drug activity.
During the search, officers found suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, suspected synthetic marijuana, suspected crack cocaine and suspected prescriptions. The resident, Rachel Schwier, age 23, was arrested. Schwier was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and endangering children. More charges may be filed later.
Due to the deplorable conditions inside the house, two young children, ages 3 and 1, were removed and placed into foster care. Crawford County Job and Family Services assisted with the young children.
“The Galion Police Department and METRICH Enforcement Unit continue to work together to develop information regarding illegal activity and coordinate investigations,” said Galion Police Chief Brian Saterfield. “We appreciate all information we receive regarding illegal activity from the community and ask that the reports continue. We cannot do this alone!”
