BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Brian Gernert, the former Law Director for Bucyrus, appeared in Tiffin Municipal Court on November 22, where he entered a guilty plea to one count of Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI).
The charge stemmed from an incident in August 2023, when Gernert was cited by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Department.
Gernert’s legal troubles began earlier this year when the Ohio Supreme Court Disciplinary Counsel issued a stay on a two-year suspension of his law license, related to a previous OVI charge.
The court’s decision, which outlined several compliance conditions, emphasized the need for Gernert to strictly adhere to a variety of guidelines. These include maintaining compliance with a contract through the Ohio Lawyers Assistance Program (OLAP), completing three hours of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) focused on issues such as alcoholism and substance abuse, and serving a two-year period of monitored probation.
The court warned that failure to meet any of these conditions would result in the revocation of the stay and the enforcement of the full suspension.
In September, Gernert resigned from his post as Law Director to prioritize his sobriety.
As of now, no further decisions regarding his suspension have been issued.
