GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) is a leading organization dedicated to supporting music educators across the state. The OMEA not only offers training for teachers but also provides students with numerous performance opportunities. These include solo and ensemble competitions, high school and middle school festivals, regional orchestras, bands, and choirs, as well as prestigious Allstate ensembles.
Gaining entry into the Allstate groups is highly competitive, requiring students to audition each year for a chance to perform at the annual OMEA Professional Development Conference, attended by thousands of music educators and parents.
This year, Galion City School District sophomore Cameron Fullen achieved this honor by auditioning and securing a spot in the Allstate Band. Out of more than 450 applicants, Cameron is one of only four students selected to play the tuba.
In addition to her Allstate achievement, Cameron has been offered a position in the Northwest Regional Orchestra, where she will be the sole tuba player in the ensemble.
Cameron is an active participant in her school’s music programs, including the high school marching band, jazz band, and concert band. She has also been involved in several honor bands throughout Ohio, including those at Bowling Green State University and the University of Akron. Furthermore, she holds a chair in the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Currently, Cameron is preparing for the OMEA District 2 high school festival auditions, as well as the Young Artists International Concerto Competition, where she aims to compete for a scholarship. With the unwavering support of her parents, who have facilitated private lessons for the past two years, Cameron is poised for continued success in her musical endeavors.
