The Galion City Council approved to accept a regional grant from FEMA at their regular council meeting Tuesday night that will help both Galion and Crestline.

During Tuesday night’s meeting Galion City Council unanimously approved to accept a grant from FEMA/The Department of Homeland Security for the amount of $115,000. Galion Fire Chief Phil Jackson explained to Council that the regional grant purchases two new Jaws of Life extraction tools for the city of Galion and one Jaws of Life extraction tool for Crestline.

Galion City Council approved an ordinance that allows Galion Safety Service Director John Swain to enter into a contract with American Pavements Inc. for a mircorsurfacing project on Laughbaum Drive and Biddle Road. American Pavements entered the lowest bid at $54,94.40. Stawser Construction entered a bid of $74,290.60.

Expenditures totaling $7,318.19 were approved alongside two “Then and Now” certificates. Those included paying $3,735 to Perram Electric Inc. for the removal of hangers at the airport and $3,583.19 to Walter H. Drane Co. for the 2015 update to the codified ordinance.

Galion City Council unanimously approved a resolution for the expenditure of $8,000 to Colonial Firework Company for city’s firework display.

A transfer of funds in the Airport Fund was approved by Galion City Council, the funds totaling $594.94 was transferred from the Airport/Materials and Supplies/Fuel fund to the Airport/Capital Outlay/Infrastructure Fund.

Galion City Auditor Brian Treisch updated Council on the ballot issue. Treisch noted that he took the petition with signatures to the courthouse in order to note which signatures were valid. Treish said that there were 75 signatures that were not valid, but the petition still had enough signatures to go to the next step.

Treisch also updated that the upcoming statement of cash will have an extra fund line for the Galion Farmers Market. Galion Mayor Tom O’Leary added that the line item was created so that EBT cards could be used at the Farmers’ Market stand.
