BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Brandon Powell, a 39-year-old resident of Bucyrus, may have jumped from the frying pan into the fire after he declined a plea deal in the Crawford County Common Pleas Court.
Powell is charged with possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor. If found guilty, Powell could be looking at up to 18 months of incarceration in a combination of prison and jail sentences.
Assistant Prosecutor Dan Stanley disclosed that the state had extended a plea deal to Powell, offering a reduced sentence of ten months in prison and dropping the menacing charge.
However, Powell, represented by court-appointed attorney Madison Garverick, decided to proceed to trial and waived his right to a speedy trial.
In response to Powell’s choice, Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold scheduled the matter for trial, with the specific date yet to be determined.
