BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Finance Committee of the Bucyrus City Council will convene on Thursday evening in the Council Chambers to deliberate on the city’s financial status. This follows a report presented by City Auditor Kali Lewis during Tuesday’s regular city council meeting.
Lewis’s report revealed a significant decrease in cash-on-hand in 2023 compared to 2022, attributed in part to the unused ARPA funds until the end of 2023. However, even when excluding ARPA, the 2023 cash-in-account remained higher than pre-COVID 2019 levels, barring June 2019, with an average monthly difference of approximately $1.1 million. The latter half of 2023 saw a steady decrease in cash.
In light of these findings, the Finance Committee will explore potential solutions at the Thursday meeting. One of the measures to be discussed is the complete repeal of out-of-town tax credits to alleviate the financial strain.
The public is invited to attend the meeting, which will commence at 6 p.m., and provide input to the committee. The council encourages active community participation in these crucial discussions.
