MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—A late-night collision on Interstate 71 in Richland County brought a coordinated emergency response from multiple local agencies after a three-vehicle crash resulted in serious injuries.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred Sunday at approximately 12:27 a.m. on Interstate 71 near milepost 173 in Mifflin Township.
Investigators say a 2026 Ford Bronco driven by Antonio Mayberry, 36, of Cleveland, was traveling southbound when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a stationary 2020 Lexus RC parked on the left shoulder.
The impact pushed the Lexus forward into a stationary 2008 Ford F-650 tow truck. At the time of the crash, two individuals outside the tow truck — Derek Tharp, 28, and Steven Gamble, 38, both of Mansfield — were struck by the Lexus.
Tharp was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield with serious injuries. Lexus occupant Zober Ahmad, 24, of Stow, was also taken to OhioHealth Mansfield with minor injuries. Mayberry and Gamble were treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Authorities reported that Mayberry and Ahmad were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The incident required assistance from several area emergency agencies, including the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Mifflin Township Fire Department, Mansfield Fire Department, Madison Fire Department, and Ronk’s Towing.
