This past Saturday, May 16th, William Crawford Intermediate School and Hannah Crawford Elementary School held their first annual Ice Cream Social presented by Donley Ford of Galion. This event was truly a celebration of the young and talented musicians, singers, and performers at Colonel Crawford.

The day began with a rousing performance, and “World Premier” of this year’s Fifth Grade Band. These students performed several short songs, as well as the longer numbers of “Band Room Rock” and “The Blues.” It was a great way for the Fifth Grade Band to make their performance debut, and they performed very well.

IMG_4452Next up, it was the Sixth Grade Band. The Sixth Grade Band performed “Superstition Overture,” “African Folk Trilogy,” “The Flinstones,” and “Limbo Rock.” Free ice cream was awarded to the parents that participated in the Limbo Game as the band played.

Immediately following the Sixth Grade Band was the WCIS Percussion Ensemble. This group performed a piece called “Kitchen Concerto” and the young drummers played with spoons on pots, pans, baking sheets, and other kitchen supplies.

The Sixth Grade Choir then took the stage. They performed “Mississippi Mud,” “The Climb,” “Is You Is, or Is You Ain’t,” and “Do-Re-Mi.”

Fresh off their trip to New York City, the Ice Cream Social was then graced with a special performance from the Colonel Crawford “Vision” Show Choir.

Next the Seventh Grade Band took the stage and put on a phenomenal performance. The highlight of their concert was a piece called “Fires of Mazama” where they had a musical volcanic eruption event in the middle of the song. They also performed “Northpointe Fantasy,” “African Journey,” “Eye of the Tiger,” and “The Hey Song.”

The day wrapped up with the Seventh Grade Choir. The Seventh Grade Choir sang “Star Dance,” “Let it Roll,” “I’m a Believer,” “Jump, Jive, an’ Wail,” and continued their yearly tradition of singing a Disney medley with “The Lion King.”

Overall the day was a great success, and an exciting time for the young performers at Colonel Crawford. A special thank you goes out to all who attended, and we are already looking forward to next year’s event!
