CRAWFORD COUNTY—The first-ever Crawford County History Fair that kicked off the summer passport program in April at Lowe-Volk Nature Center will provide bus tours to visit all participating history-oriented locations in the county to get acquainted and to complete the passport stamps.

The buses are free to the public and will depart from Lowe-Volk Park at 1 p.m. sharp on Sunday, September 24, and Sunday, October 1. There will be a west and east bus on both Sundays, allowing people to ride one bus the first Sunday, and then come back to ride the other one the following Sunday to complete the twelve stops across Crawford County. Buses will return to Lowe-Volk Park around 5 p.m.

These tours will be on a first-come, first-served basis. “We have had overwhelming interest in this fun program,” said Amber Wertman, chair of the Crawford County History Alliance, “and have no idea if we will fill the buses or not.”

“Additional “drive-on-your-own” maps will be provided if the buses become full and more people want to visit these museums by driving the route themselves.”

All places will be open to the public on both Sundays mentioned from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to all places is free as a special offer on these days: Bucyrus Historical Society & Scroggs House, Bucyrus T&OC Depot (Bucyrus Preservation Society), Crawford County Center for the Arts, Crawford Parks District (Lowe-Volk Nature Center), Crestline Historical Society & Museum, the Galion Big Four Depot (Friends of the Big Four Depot), Brownella Cottage, Historic Grace Church, Galion History Museum and Hayden-Helfrich Industrial Annex (Galion History Center), the Gill House (Preserving Galion, Inc.), Harvey One Room School, the Lincoln Highway (Hopley Monument and Bement and McMahon Pillars), and the New Washington Historical Society Museum.

Passports may be turned in for a prize drawing to be held at the Bucyrus Spooktacular event on Saturday, October 21.

The Crawford County History Alliance is an ad hoc coalition of participating county history-oriented organizations that share ideas and projects to promote our local history.
