The Democratic mayoral candidates will look very familiar to Bucyrus residents come Tuesday and they even come with experience in the mayor’s office.
The two candidates seeking to be the Democratic mayoral candidate in the general election are Mike Jacobs and Dan Ross.
Ross had served six years as Bucyrus’ mayor before resigning in 2010 when the Crawford County Board of Elections ruled his residence was outside the city limits. Jacobs, who at the time had been a Bucyrus City Council member, had been appointed by the Democratic Central Committee to replace Ross. He ran for election in 2012 but lost a close race to Roger Moore.
Ross is a Bucyrus High School graduate and a retired Bucyrus fire chief. He had served on the Bucyrus Board of Education from 2002 to 2003 and had held the position of Bucyrus mayor from 2004 to 2010.
Jacobs had served 14 years on the Bucyrus City Council and served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1970. During that time he did a one-year stint in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. He retired from Timken after 34 years.
Current Bucyrus mayor Jeff Reser will run unopposed in the spring primary.
Wanda Sharrock and Dan Wirebaugh will also be running for Bucyrus City Council-At-Large positions as Democrats while Dale Gingery and Mark Makeever have filed for the positions as Republicans.
