LORAIN—For Hunger Action Month this September, Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio will join Feeding America and other member food banks across the nation to inspire conversation and drive passion for the issue of hunger.

Everyone needs nutritious food to thrive, and in our community, people are working hard to provide for themselves and their families. Yet, in our four-county region, 119,000 people had to access our services last year. An unexpected event, like the recent storms, can mean money for food is moved to pay for something else.

“People should be deciding WHAT to eat, not IF they eat each day, said Susan Bartosch, director of external affairs at Second Harvest. “Hunger is still a real issue in our area, and Hunger Action Month is a chance for us to reflect on what we can do to help.”

Every action – big or small – is one step closer to a community where no one is hungry.

Here are some actions you can take this September:

  • Wear orange to support hunger relief on Hunger Action Day- September 15 (or any day throughout September). Share a pic of your orange style socially with @SecondHarvestOH and use the hashtag #HungerActionMonth.
  • Write to your local elected official and urge them to fight hunger in your community.
  • Support the Farm Bill to End Hunger
  • Donate your lunch money. Every $1 provides 7 meals
