CRAWFORD/MARION/SENECA COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Ohio State Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies are stepping up enforcement across the region, conducting a series of OVI checkpoints and saturation patrols this weekend in Crawford, Marion, and Seneca counties.
In Seneca County, troopers are joining forces with the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and the Tiffin Police Department for a checkpoint tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. on West Market Street, near the intersection of South Shaffer Parkway in Tiffin. Officers are also running nearby saturation patrols to target impaired drivers.
Additional checkpoints are set for Saturday evening in Crawford and Marion counties. State patrol posts in Bucyrus and Marion announced that the exact locations for those checkpoints will be released Saturday morning.
All of the operations are funded through federal grant money aimed at intercepting impaired drivers and curbing traffic fatalities.
“Based on provisional data, there were 1,238 OVI-related serious injury and fatal crashes in 2025 in Ohio,” said Lt. Ty Skaggs, commander of the Bucyrus Post. “State troopers made over 15,000 OVI arrests last year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers.”
Lt. Andrew Geer, commander of the Marion Post, emphasized that the initiative is both a warning and an enforcement action.
“OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways,” Geer said.
With enforcement underway tonight and continuing through tomorrow, law enforcement officials are urging anyone planning to consume alcohol to designate a driver or arrange alternative transportation before heading out.
