BUCYRUS—Jesse Baird, 32, of Bucyrus, made his initial appearance in the Crawford County Common Pleas Court Monday afternoon.
On Sunday, August 6th, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call reporting a pickup truck crash and rollover on Kiess Rd., just south of the intersection of Kiess Rd. and Rt. 98.

The incident led to a foot pursuit and the arrest of Baird. Baird was near the Riley Reservoir. Officers apprehended him in a wooded area just west of the reservoir.
Baird was on a personal recognizance bond stemming from a domestic violence dispute. Deputies arrested Baird for a violation of the bond.
Crawford County Assistant Prosecutor Dan Stanley asked the court to raise Baird’s bond to $75,000.00. Stanley cited Baird’s extensive record, including an OVI fourth-degree felony conviction in 2022 while he was in a halfway house at the Volunteers of
America in Mansfield. Baird served time in prison for that conviction.
Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold told the court that Baird’s actions and record indicated the need for a significant increase in bond.
“Quite frankly, when someone is going to run from the police, it concerns me whether or not they are going to show up for court. If you’re not going to stop for the police voluntarily, why are you going to come to court voluntarily.” Leuthold said.
Leuthold set Baird’s bond at $150,000.00 cash or surety. He ordered the matter set for a pretrial.
