CRESTLINE—The Crawford County History Alliance (CCHA) is hosting its first-ever History Fair on Sunday, April 23rd, from 1 to 4 pm at the Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center in Crestline. The event is an opportunity for twelve of the county’s history-oriented museums and organizations to showcase their collections and offer the public a chance to engage with the area’s rich history.
Some of the participating organizations will be providing free goodies and selling items from their collections. Attendees will also have a chance to win door prizes drawn every fifteen minutes, including eight original signed and numbered Crawford County Bicentennial barn prints, compliments of the Galion-Crestline Chamber of Commerce.
The main highlight of the event is the new History Passport project, which visitors can begin collecting stamps for. The passport can be completed throughout the summer at Crawford County’s various historical attractions. In the fall, completed passports will be eligible for a grand prize of an original hand-made copper kettle from Bucyrus Copper Kettle Works or one of many other prizes showcasing Crawford County businesses. First-come, first-served “get-acquainted” bus tours are scheduled to depart from Lowe-Volk Park starting in late September, giving everyone a chance to complete all of their passport stamps.
The CCHA is a coalition of Crawford County historical organizations and museums that formed in 2022 to share ideas and experiences, assist each other with promotions, raise awareness of these places, and better tell the county’s history to the public. The passport project is being underwritten by the Bucyrus Travel & Tourism Bureau and both county chambers.
The following organizations will be participating in the History Fair: Bucyrus Historical Society, Crawford County Arts Council, Crawford Park District, Crestline Historical Society, Friends of the Big Four Depot, Galion History Center, Gill House, Preserving Galion Inc., Harvey One Room School, New Washington Historical Society, Ohio Lincoln Highway (Hopley Monument restoration), and T&OC Depot.
This event is an excellent opportunity for residents and visitors alike to learn more about Crawford County’s history and culture. For more information about the History Fair, contact the CCHA or visit their website.
