BUCYRUS— Just a little more than a year after being acquitted of six criminal charges by a jury, Jason Tupps, 46, of Galion, is back in the Crawford County Jail. Tupps was booked into the jail on Wednesday and faces one count of rape, a felony of the first degree punishable with up to 11 years in prison, and one count of domestic violence.

Tupps was the subject of a long and somewhat salacious trial after he was charged in July of 2018 of holding a motorist at gunpoint and threatening to shoot her.

Tupps was acquitted of charges that included a gun speculation. He was convicted of a misdemeanor charge of falsification and served jail time. Tupps was represented by Mansfield attorney James Mayer III.

Visiting retired Wood County Judge Robert Pollex presided over the hearing.

Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall is expected to seek a special prosecutor and a visiting Judge to preside over the new case against Tupps.
