Raising $500 for various ALS charities the Buckeye Central faculty and staff took the ice bucket challenge Friday afternoon.
Spearheaded by eighth graders Maddie Diesch, Kaylynn Thompson, and Elizabeth Cronau, the students challenged the Buckeye Central faculty to take part in the challenge during a pep rally Friday afternoon drumming up school spirit before the football season kicked off Friday evening.
“We were actually talking about in class, we were watching a video and both of us thought it would be an awesome idea,” Kaylynn Thompson said.
Elizabeth “I was going to do something, because they weren’t going to do anything with the idea, so we got together and brainstormed,” Elizabeth Cronau stated.
“A lot of the students had done it before so we thought it would be cool to have the staff do it,” Diesch explained.
Elementary Prinicpal Matt Millinger explained why the school decided to participate in the Ice Bucket Challenge.
“We have about 50 individuals and they are all going to donate 10 dollars to the charity they want to represent of ALS, Millinger said.
“It is for a worthy cause, obviously with ALS they are trying to raise awareness for this disease, and I have been listening to the radio quite extensively on how much they have raised they have generated, and it is in the hundreds of millions,” Millinger said. “It is amazing what they have come up with, and how it is spurred on. It is building comradery within the staff, and just an excellent opportunity to show team spirit.”
Miller was unsure if ice bucket challenge would become an annual event.
“I don’t know if this is going to be annual event, but if it is I am sure something will come out of it,” Millinger said.
After completing the challenge, a soaked High School Principal Jay Zeiter issued the ice bucket challenge to the staff members in the schools that make up the new N-10 Conference.
“It was fun, and a good way to bring the faculty together for a good cause,” Buckeye Central art teacher Betty Majoy said.
Closing out the pep rally, Principal Zeiter introduced the seniors playing their final season for Buckeye Central.
