The Wynford school board had very little time to spare when it came to finding a key administrator and wasted no time at all in finding one with experience.
Prior to a work session that included walking the campus, the school board met in special session and unanimously approved former Shelby football coach Chris Solis as the district’s assistant principal and athletics director.
Solis comes to Wynford with 18 years classroom experience along with 17 years of coaching for Shelby as well as Tri-Rivers.
“I think the biggest thing is I have had 18 years in the classroom and teaching and working with kids. Being evaluated through evaluations where you aren’t just observed, but also having to have student data of are the kids growing in the classroom.” Solis said.
“I was part of sports when I was in school, played college football, then had the opportunity to coach for the last 17 years. When I was an assistant coach in football, I also coached JV basketball, so I bring experience from those positions,” Solis continued.
“We were very fortunate to find someone with the work ethic and enthusiasm as Mr. Solis,” Wynford Superintendent Steve Mohr said.
Solis replaces Travis Moyer as athletics director. Dominic Kaple had originally signed on to replace Moyer, but resigned before his contract term began.
Fifth grade teacher Abby Ruffing was also hired by the board unanimously Monday. Ruffing, who is a Wynford graduate, comes back to the school district with two years of experience at Cardington.
The Wynford Board of Education also approved the certified negotiated agreement unanimously Monday night. The contract will be in effect from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2017.
