BUCYRUS — Daniel Renner appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday to face 30 counts of pandering sexually oriented material to a minor. Each charge is punishable with up to 18 months in prison which equates to 45 years behind bars.
Renner’s attorney, Derek Dailey, had petitioned the court for a District V Competency Examination. Renner, 26, was in court for the findings of that examination. According to a District V Psychiatrist, Renner is competent to stand trial. The exam concluded that Renner understands the charges he faces and can assist in his defense.
Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold deemed Renner competent to stand trial. Assistant prosecutor Ryan Hoovler said that, based on some issues addressed in the exam, he made an offer to Renner of 20 years in prison with a possible judicial release after he serves 10 years behind bars. Renner’s attorney told the court that he had not had a chance to adequately discuss the offer with his client.
Leuthold set the matter for another pretrial so that Dailey could meet with his client to see if he was interested in the deal the State had offered.
In other court action, Tiffany Lewis, 25, of Galion pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony punishable with up to one year in prison. Leuthold honored a plea negotiation and sentenced Lewis to a flat seven months in prison. She is ordered to report to the Crawford County Jail for transport to prison on March 19 by 7 p.m.
Lawrence Irwin, 46, of Crestline pleaded guilty to one count of possession of drugs, a third-degree felony punishable with up to three years in prison and one count of tampering with evidence, also a third-degree felony punishable with up to three years in prison. In a separate case, Irwin pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony punishable with up to one year in prison.
In a plea negotiation, Leuthold sentenced Irwin to three years in prison for the third-degree possession of drugs, one year for tampering with evidence and one year on the possession of drugs charge. In total Irwin will spend the next five years in prison. He was ordered to pay the Crestline Water Department $1,355.47 in restitution.
Jeremy Shafer, 32, of Tiro, pleaded guilty to one count of failure to comply, a third-degree felony punishable with up to three years in prison. In a plea negotiation, Leuthold sentenced Shafer to two years in prison. He also received a 10-year driver’s license suspension. He will forfeit all related property to the appropriate authorities. Shafer could be eligible for judicial release in the future.
Andrew Conner, 34, currently incarcerated in Orient, Ohio pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony punishable with up to eight years in prison.
Conner is currently serving nine years and nine months in prison on charges out of Wyandot County. In a plea negotiation, Leuthold sentenced Conner to one year in prison to run concurrently with the Wyandot County charges.
