The next chapter in Crestline football history now has a new head coach to go along with a new Hutson Stadium. The Crestline Board of Education approved hiring Kevin Sipes Thursday evening.
Sipes has been an assistant for the Bulldogs and takes over the reins from Lee Hurst who resigned in May after one season. Sipes will be the fifth coach in five years for the Bulldogs.
“My philosophy is simply this we are going to run the ball, run the ball, run the ball, until we have to pass,” Sipes said. “Schemes we are going to show multi-fronts. We are going to take it back a little old school with the Power I and we are just going to mix it up this year.
“When I coached last year I tried to tell the kids ‘listen give me 110 percent 100 percent of the time, and I expect that on and off the field, whether it is on the field or in the classroom that is what I expect,” Sipes continued.
Contracts for Travis Minnear (7-12 English), Jackie Flinders (head softball coach), Steve Garberich (head baseball coach), and Tiffany Martin (boys tennis coach) were also approved.
Treasurer Bradd Stevens delivered some not so good news to the Crestline school board. In his report Stevens noted that the school’s General Fund is on a continuing trend of decreasing due to spending more than what is being brought in.
Stevens reported that that the school had spent $5,364,455 while only bringing in $4,762,853 in May of 2014.
“I propose that the board talk about doing a possible levy due to expenditures increasing, and revenues for the school decreasing,” Stephens said.
The board approved a meeting for 7 p.m. June 26 to discuss a possible levy in the November 2014 elections.
