GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—What started as a simple conversation turned into a meaningful act of kindness for one local teen.

After hearing Gabby’s story, the owners of Making Memories Bridal & Formal Wear, Michelle and Missy, knew they wanted to do something to help. According to Michelle, Gabby never once asked for a donation. Instead, after learning more about her journey and the challenges she has overcome, they chose to donate a pageant dress for her upcoming competition.

Gabby, who is 16 years old, has overcome trauma within the foster care system and now uses her voice to advocate for others through the Fostering Love Foundation, which serves as her platform. Those around her describe her as resilient, positive, and determined to use her experiences to help others.

For Gabby, the gesture meant far more than receiving a dress.

“Receiving this dress from Missy and Michelle means the world to me,” Gabby shared. “Planning for a pageant can be pricey at times, especially when you have a whole week of outfits to pick, so having one less outfit to worry about is such a financial and mental relief that I am so incredibly grateful for.”

The experience also reminded Gabby how important community support can be and how much kindness matters.

“This whole experience has me eternally grateful for our community here in Galion,” she said. “It’s a reminder that showing up for your community matters, and what you pour into others will be poured right back into you.”

Making Memories Bridal & Formal Wear officially opened Jan. 8, 2026, and owners say giving back has always been part of who they are.

“Giving back is something we never plan for, it’s something we’ve always believed in,” Michelle and Missy shared. “Sometimes it’s more than helping someone find the perfect dress. It’s about kindness and compassion that can make a lasting difference.”

The shop offers bridal gowns, prom and homecoming dresses, tux and suit rentals, and other formal wear, but the owners say the most rewarding part of the business has been celebrating important moments alongside their customers.

From helping local schools with prom-related costs to attending area prom grand marches, the business has quickly become involved within the community since opening earlier this year.

The connection formed with Gabby is one the owners say will continue well beyond pageant season.

“We hope Gabby knows that she will always have us now as family,” Michelle and Missy shared. “We are excited to attend her upcoming pageant in June. We hope she knows that when she looks out into the crowd, we will be there to support her that night and always.”

Looking ahead, Making Memories Bridal & Formal Wear is preparing for Galion First Friday on June 5, where they will host a bridal booking giveaway while also welcoming their 2026 homecoming dress collection.

Since opening earlier this year, the shop has continued focusing on more than formal wear by building relationships, supporting local students, and finding ways to give back throughout the community.
