BUCYRUS — The city of Bucyrus is again recognizing those who put their lives on the line.
For the third year, March is being designated as Safety Forces Month, a joint effort between the city and Positive Seekers, a non-profit citizen’s group. Mayor Jeff Reser has issued a proclamation honoring those heroes for their service and dedication.
Reser said police officers, firefighters and paramedics have a long history of service to the community. Not to be forgotten, the mayor said in the proclamation, are sheriff’s deputies, highway patrol officers and dispatchers who wear their uniforms with pride.
“We thank them, especially in times like this, and we rely on their expertise and dedication, from the top leadership and on down,” Reser said. “We commend them for their outstanding safety services and dedication.”
A wreath, which was made by Norton’s Flowers, is hanging in the lobby of city hall as a tribute to the safety forces — and as a way of publicly thanking them for the risks they take, according to Positive Seekers co-founder Carolyn Shireman.
Shireman suggested members of the community do anything they can this month to express their gratitude as well, perhaps by displaying blue ribbons in their windows and storefronts or by providing food or snacks to fire, police or EMS stations.
In his proclamation, Reser noted the importance of remembering those who day in and day out make sacrifices that often go unnoticed.
“I ask our citizens to remain united and show gratitude as well as support to all people in this line of work and their families,” the mayor said.
