Firefighter Ryan Sparks has put plenty of time in at the Bucyrus Fire Department and Friday morning he was reaping the rewards.

Sparks, a 17-year veteran of the Fire Department, was sworn in as the department’s newest Lieutenant.

“This is my second Lieutenant’s one I’ve ever got to do since I’ve been chief,” Bucyrus Fire Chief Jay Keller remarked before introducing Sparks. “I wanted to congratulate Ryan Sparks, who go the highest on the Lieutenant’s exam.”

Sparks had been sworn in as a Bucyrus firefighter on March 18, 1997. During his 17 years of experience, Sparks has also become an EMT and an inspector.

“All-around good guy,” Keller said about Sparks. “Everybody will tell you here, all the firemen here, what a good guy Ryan is. No matter what the assignment is, this guy will do it.

“That’s one thing about Ryan. When on a fire scene, you know if Ryan’s there he’s got your back. And that’s the most important thing a firefighter needs is somebody like Ryan.”

Keller said it was an honor and privilege to have Sparks as a leader in the department.
