NORTH ROBINSON — Colonel Crawford Local Schools Superintendent Todd Martin updated the board on his battle to get the speed limit at the intersection of Ohio 602 and Crestline Road from 55 to 45.
“The North Robinson village has agreed that they will raise their speed limit south of the tracks from 35 to 45,” Martin said. “If they do that. They’ll bring the 45 all the way down to Crestline road. That’s the first step they’re agreeing to, but I’m not done-I want it to go a quarter mile out of town.”
Martin had Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent run the stats on accidents in that intersection, and in the last three years there have been seven accidents with four of them having been three students and a staff member, and the last two have resulted in students’ having their cars totaled.
These stats and pictures were sent to ODOT and to State Representative Riordan McClain and his office. Representatives from McClain’s office responded and said they would send the information to the necessary contacts at ODOT.
Board member Gordon Grove asked if there have been any studies lately to show the increase on traffic going into North Robinson, due to the county landfill taking in more garbage from out of county. Martin stated that that has been one of his main arguing points because of the huge trucks that travel at high speeds through the Ohio 602 and Crestline Road intersection at 55-65 miles per hour.
Martin has said he will keep the board updated on the process.
Also at the meeting, the board approved the purchase of 90 Chromebooks to help with state testing due to their old laptops kicking students out at various stages in testing. So far, students who have used Chromebooks for testing have not had any problems.
The board also approved the purchase of a school can with a wheelchair lift from Cardinal Bus Sales & Service Inc. The bus has five regular seats then the wheelchair space.
The next board meeting is Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.
