BUCYRUS―Christmas Tours featuring stops at key locations in Bucyrus and Galion are being held Thursday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 7 to kick off the holiday season.
Virginia Hammontree of the Bucyrus Tourism and Visitors Bureau said the last Christmas-style tour was hosted by a sorority in 2005.
“This will be the First Annual Christmas Tour hosted by the Bureau,” said Hammontree.
Bucyrus stops on the tour will include the First Presbyterian, Good Hope Lutheran and United Methodist Churches, the Bucyrus Historical Society, Elks Lodge 156, T and OC Train Depot on East Rensselaer Street, Harvey School, the Crooked Tree Farm and Hord Family Farm Visitor’s Center. Galion stops include the Gill House and Big Four Depot with a visit to the famous Brownella Cottage during Saturday’s tour only.
People can take a tour on Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Dec. 7, the tour will be held from 1 to 4 p.m.
As the director of the Bureau, Hammontree wants to engage the community, as well as visitors, in all that Crawford County has to offer.
“I want to bring back the City Tour, provide a “Garden Party” Tour and I am really excited about a “Travel – the Bucyrus Connections” tour,” said Hammontree.
She said tourism is a huge industry.
“We need to get Bucyrus and Crawford County on the places to visit to-do list. Bring me your ideas and elbow grease to work alongside the Bureau to bring people and part of the $44 Billion annual Ohio Tourism spending to our area,” said Hammontree.
Tickets for the Christmas Tour are $15 each and are available at the Crawford Partnership building, Bucyrus Historical Society, Harvey School, Hord Family Farm Visitors Center, Bucyrus First Presbyterian Church and the Big Four Depot in Galion.
The Bucyrus Tourism and Visitors Bureau is located in the Crawford Partnership Building at 117 E. Mansfield St. in Bucyrus. For more information, call 419-562-0720 or visit the Bureau’s website.
