CRESTLINE — Crestline Police Chief Jeff Shook said he appreciates the toy donations for the department’s toy drive but is in need of families to give the toys to this Christmas.
“We need more applicants,” Shook said during the regular Crestline Village Council meeting Monday evening.
He said only two families have signed up to receive toys this year.
“We are looking for more families in need of help for Christmas and have applications at the police station, in the schools and at social services agencies,” Shook said.
Mayor Joy Miley said some families may be too proud to ask for help.
“That has happened in the past so if you know of a family who needs help, but they may be too proud to request an application, please submit their name and contact information to us,” Miley said.
Also during the meeting, village administrator John Rostash said Buckeye Excavating will begin the replacement of the Main Street waterline on Dec. 3.
“The project area is from the middle of the intersection of Wiley Street through the intersection of Seltzer Street,” Rostash said. “Two-way traffic will be maintained during the project on Main Street and some of the cross streets will need to be closed during the project.”
He said the community will be updated throughout the project on the village’s website and Facebook page.
“The Crestline Service Department will continue to gather leaves until the job is done,” Rostash said of the fall leaf clean-up project.
Rostash said the village submitted the annual Tree City USA application this week.
“Because our Tree Commission hosted the 2019 Tree City Awards Ceremony, we were able to also apply for a Growth Award,” Rostash said.
Council voted to approve the mayor’s appointment of Brooklyn Potter from a part-time police officer to a full-time position and Adam Hoffman as a part-time janitor for the village.
Resolutions were approved to allow the village administrator to execute a letter of agreement with Local Government Services of the state auditor’s office to provide the necessary services to reconcile the village’s records and the advertising of bids for the Park Road Pump Station Project.
The next council meeting is Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the village hall.
