BUCYRUS―A Bucyrus Police officer who was injured during the apprehension of a homicide suspect in Galion on November 13 is recovering from his injuries.

According to Bucyrus Police Chief Dave Koepke, Jamie Carver, a long-time officer of his department and member of the Crawford County Special Response Team, has two broken vertebrae after a fall from an attic.

“He is part of the Special Response Team and was searching the attic area to ensure there were no other suspects hiding after the original suspect was apprehended and had been hiding in the attic,” said Koepke.

The suspect, Roshan Cumberlander, 37, was wanted on a homicide warrant out of the Columbus Police Department in connection with the death of his estranged girlfriend. The resident of the apartment in the 400 block of Libby Lane, Lashaunda Pankey, 26, Galion, was also arrested and charged with obstruction of justice. Both were taken to the Crawford County Justice Center.

He said Carver crawled over a weak spot in the attic floor and fell two floors down to the first floor of the apartment.

“The area he fell from was over the stairway that leads to the second floor,” said Koepke.

He said Carver will be off work indefinitely.

“He is waiting to see a specialist to learn if surgery is needed,” said Koepke.
