BUCYRUS — Emergency crews responded to a structure fire that caused one woman to be taken to the hospital shortly after 10 a.m. Friday.
Bucyrus Fire Department crews responded at approximately 10:10 a.m. to a fire at a manufactured modular residence at 509 Failor Street at the corner of Woodlawn Avenue.
According to BFD firefighter Eric McNutt, BFD Engines 2 and 3 responded to the scene and found heavy smoke in the area. A second alarm for additional personnel was made.
McNutt said primary information given by two women who escaped the fire, was that the resident’s brother may still be in the residence.
After a search of the structure, the man was not found, and the situation no longer was considered a search and rescue scenario.
The resident’s mother, who was sleeping in an adjoining room, was transported by Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation, singed hair and minor fire-related injuries.

The resident, an adult daughter of the injured woman, who also was in the residence at the time of the fire, refused medical attention.
According to BFD Capt. Steven Sargel, the resident said she believed the fire began at an electrical outlet where an air conditioning unit and a television were plugged into.
McNutt said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
AEP Ohio and the American Red Cross responded to the scene.

The City of Bucyrus Utility Department also responded to the area for a broken underground waterline. That area was placed on a boil advisory by the City of Bucyrus.
