A Bucyrus man with a multitude of legal troubles took care of them all Tuesday morning in exchange for three prison sentences totaling 59 months. A fourth charge against 21-year-old Jordan Ernsberger was dismissed.
In a plea arrangement with the Prosecutor’s Office, Ernsberger pleaded guilty to Felony 5 charges of receiving stolen property and forgery in addition to a Felony 3 theft charge. Ernsberger admitted to keeping checks that did not belong to him, trying to cash one and stealing a hand gun.
Judge Russell Wiseman accepted the plea arrangement and sentenced Ernsberger to consecutive prison sentences of 12 months for receiving stolen property, 11 months for forgery and 36 months for theft.
Ernsberger will receive credit for 76 days served in the county jail and can apply for judicial release after serving nine months. He must also pay $750 in restitution to Peoples Savings and Loan Company. Ernsberger was also fined $1,000 and will be subject to three years of post-release control upon his release from prison.
In an unrelated case, 25-year-old Steven Marquis was back in court for an initial hearing he violated his community control. Marquis was given a judicial release from prison in October of 2012. Marquis was originally sentenced to a 36-month prison sentence following his conviction for drug trafficking.
Probation Officer Ken Dyer alleged Tuesday that Marquis violated his community control by being in possession heroin, engaging in drug trafficking, and being in possession of drug abuse instruments. Marquis has a pending case charging him with Felony 2 drug possession.
Wiseman continued the community control violation case and appointed Brad Starkey to represent Marquis.
