BLOOMVILLE — Two fatalities were the result of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Ohio 103 and Ross Road just west of Chatfield on Wednesday morning.
According to a resident nearby to the crash, who called it in to authorities, the crash occurred at approximately 7 a.m.
According to Lt. Scott Rike, commander of the Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, two females were pronounced dead at the scene, but their identities are not being released due to one victim’s identity not being confirmed and families needing notified.
According to Rike, preliminary investigations show an empty dump truck was westbound on Ohio 103 when a vehicle occupied by the two females entered the intersection and were struck by the truck and pushed into the ditch on the northwest corner of the intersection, striking a power line.
The truck driver was flown by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center, Columbus for non-incapacitating injuries.
The JAWS were used to remove the fatality victims from the vehicle.
Along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, other agencies on the scene included Lykens and Chatfield volunteer fire departments, North Central Electric, Knecht’s Auto Recycling and MedFlight.
A representative of North Central Electric said, after the scene is cleared, crews will install a new pole and restore power to the approximately seven residences without power.
Rike said a news release with the identities of the victims, and the investigation’s official findings, will be released as soon as identities are confirmed and family members are notified.
