GALION — Expected hotter than normal temperatures have lead some local schools to cancel classes.

Principal Kate Holzer said on Labor Day evening that Galion St. Joseph Catholic School will be closed on Tuesday, September 4th. Classrooms at the school do not have air conditioning.

Mansfield City Schools also announced the closure of some of their elementary buildings in light of the excessive heat. Prospect, Sherman, Springmill STEM and Woodland, and the Spanish Immersion School will all be closed on Tuesday. Malabar Intermediate, Mansfield Middle School and Mansfield Senior High School will be in session as usual.

The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the region, forecasting possible heat index values in the upper 90’s to near 100 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday, mainly during the afternoon hours.
