MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center hosted its annual Student Leadership Conference on Friday, May 8, providing high school students an interactive environment to explore leadership practices.

The conference drew approximately 200 students and 20 adults from nine client and partnering districts. The event is designed to increase leadership capacity by allowing students in grades 9 through 12 to develop collaboration skills outside of their home districts.

“Students from area school districts enjoyed engaging, hands-on team building activities and motivational speakers to aid them in their future endeavors as student school leaders,” said Kevin Fourman, Mid-Ohio ESC educational consultant and special programs coordinator.

The day featured two prominent keynote speakers. Dr. Jim Mahoney, an educator, entrepreneur, and the first executive director of Battelle for Kids, addressed the students during the morning session. The afternoon concluded with a presentation by Doug Ute, the executive director of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA). Ute, a former superintendent and coach, is the 11th leader in the OHSAA’s 117-year history.

Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center provides specialized academic and support services to 13 school districts and more than 20,000 students across Crawford, Morrow, and Richland counties.
