“Come on folks there’s no friends at an auction,” auctioneer Mike Zahn told bidders trying to get them to raise their bids at the Bratwurst Festival’s annual Stein Auction Saturday evening. Proceeds of the auction went to the Bratwurst Festival Queen’s Scholarship Fund.

The most expensive stein went for $675 to Heat Wave Tanning Salon. This stein was actually the last stein to be sold, Stein #6. The stein was given to 2015 the Bratwurst Festival Queen’s Pageant second runner-up, ChayLinn Hildreth.

Stein #1 went for $400 to Chris Schimpf from Pickwick Farms.

“We just kind of wanted to come and be part of the auction for the community and everything and participate in it,” Schimpf said. “Kind of a new experience from my end and enjoyed being part of the auction.”

Once the buildings are done next year at Pickwick they plan on displaying it for all to see but until then, they plan on hiding them safely in their home.

Coin #1 was purchased by Norman Weinandy for $35. Button #1 was purchased by Joe Kennedy.

Stein #4 was purchased by John Jinright, owner of the carnival rides at the festival, J.C.J. Carnival Rides. Before the bids began for this stein, Queen Ashley Keener explained how this stein was her stein because the button she was given when she became queen had the stein auction 2number four on it. Her court also had buttons with the numbers five and six, so their steins corresponded with the respective numbers.

Jinright topped everyone else in bids and as Keener walked back to give it to him, he yelled out, “That goes to the Queen!”

With a stunned expression Keener was very happy thanking Jinright with open arms.

Jinright had a simple explanation for his generosity. “Because she got up and said it was important to her, and it was the right thing to do.”

Jinright also purchased another item and donated it back later saying, “I was just bidding to help the Queen’s Scholarship Fund(s).”stein auction 4

Some other items that were auctioned off were a Brattie magnet purchased by Mayor Jeff Reser for $25. Reser also purchased a set of bratwurst necklace and earrings.

The only mini-stein this year went to Dave Brewer for $160.
