BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Fairgoers will once again have an opportunity to help children in need during this year’s Crawford County Fair through the John Schiefer Memorial Toy Drive.
Organizers announced the annual toy collection, held in memory of former Bucyrus fire chief John Schiefer, is returning to the fairgrounds. Schiefer, a farmer and avid collector of farm toys, is being honored through the effort, which gathers new toys for donation to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
Community members are encouraged to bring a toy or toys to the fire tent at the fairgrounds during the fair. The collection site is located along Whetstone Street next to the Camp Millard monument.
As an incentive for participation, the first 100 donors will receive a coupon for one scoop of ice cream from Mark’s Homemade Ice Cream at the fair. Organizers noted the coupons must be redeemed before the ice cream truck closes on the final day of the fair.
The toy drive combines two of Schiefer’s passions — farming and collecting toy farm equipment — while supporting children receiving care at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Organizers said the goal is to bring joy to children in need while encouraging fair visitors to support a local charitable effort.
The toy drive will be conducted throughout the Crawford County Fair, with donations accepted at the fire tent during fair hours.
